I am a final-year PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT advised by Prof. Marija Ilic and Dr. John Parsons.
My PhD work focuses on energy-limited resources (such as storage and flexible demand) which are needed to integrate variable renewable energy. As variable generation capacity increases, balancing the grid will increasingly depend on such energy-limited resources; stored energy, rather than installed capacity, will constrain resource adequacy and market outcomes. I study how these resources should be planned, managed, and modeled to deliver reliable power at least cost.
I graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley in 2020. Before starting my PhD I worked on flexible demand in two roles: as a product engineer at Axiom Cloud to operate supermarket refrigeration as a flexible load, and as a research intern at the National Lab of the Rockies (formerly: National Renewable Energy Lab) to integrate models of building HVAC flexibility into behind-the-meter technoeconomic analyses. During my PhD I have spent two summers with The Brattle Group’s Electricity Practice building load forecast models and supporting expert testimony in rate cases.
Outside of research I play mediocre guitar and take photographs on both digital and 35mm film.
